School Events: 2019 – 2020


June 2019:

  • Paul’s Feast
    The Annual Feast of our Patron Saint Paul, was celebrated on 29th June 2019. Rev. Fr. Elvin Cardozo SJ (Principal of St. Paul’s High School, Khanapur) was the Main Celebrant. Fr. Elwin preached a meaningful homily and spoke on the lives of St. Paul and St. Peter. He also stressed that the faithful should learn from and emulate the lives of Saints Peter and Paul. The choir trained by Fr. Cecil Fernandes SJ and Mr. Deepak Pillay sang melodious hymns in English and Konkani.
  • Belgaum Xavier Company Units Meet
    On June 29th there was a meeting held for all the units coming under the Belgaum Xavier Company. The important decision taken was to get all the workers under the Provident Fund. The detailed procedure was explained to those present. The Provident Fund registration is under way. After the meeting, all assembled in the Jesuit house to celebrate the birthday of Fr. Pedro Rodrigues SJ.

July 2019:

  • First Friday Mass
    A Mass for all the Catholic students and staff was celebrated on 5th July 2019. Instead of a homily, Fr. Cecil Fernandes SJ showed the boys a video on sharing and being charitable. He also told the boys to use their talents and participate in all possible activities in the school like music, sports and academics. Fr. Cecil also strictly instructed the students to attend Sunday School in their respective parishes regularly.
  • Primary School Cabinet Investiture
    This ceremony was held on 17th July in the presence of the Principal, Rector & Manager, Headmistress, teachers, parents and primary school students in the school hall. The Principal thanked the outgoing cabinet members for their selfless service and motivated the newly elected members. He told them to be humble and carry out their responsibilities sincerely.
  • Sendoff to Teacher Christine Lobo & Teacher Jean Rebello
    On 27th July 2019, Tr. Christine Lobo graciously retired from service. She was a good teacher and served the Management and students in St. Paul’s for the past 40 years. The Management of St. Paul’s, Students, and the PBW (Paulites of Belgaum Worldwide) felicitated Tr. Christine and thanked her for her dedicated services.
    We are also grateful to Tr. Jean for giving some of the best years of her life towards educating and enlightening the students of our school. She was an excellent teacher.
  • Seminar on “Personality Development” & “Choosing Career Options” for the Students
    A seminar for the SSLC students was held on 29th July 2019. Mr. Varun Shiri (Boy of the Year and Paulite Alumnus 2017) was the resource person.
  • Feast of St. Ignatius of Loyola
    The Celebrations for the feast of St. Ignatius commenced July 28th at St Paul’s. The evening began with the Eucharistic celebration. The main celebrant was Fr. Paul. The Gadhinlaj community prepared the Eucharist. The Jesuits then assembled at the BXC office for some fun and games. This was organized by the Khanapur and Sangargalli community. The Jesuits were then treated to a sumptuous meal prepared by our Belgaum chefs, Fr. Jimmy, Fr. Pedro, Bro. Shawn and Bro. Anthony together with our kitchen staff.
    The solemn feast of Saint Ignatius of Loyola was celebrated on the 31st July 2019. The celebrations began with the concelebrated Mass at 11.00am in the Cathedral. The catholic students, parents and students of other faiths were invited to attend the festive Mass. Rev. Fr. Motiram Bardeskar SJ (Principal of St. Paul’s Primary School, Sangargalli) was the Main Celebrant. He preached an inspiring homily and encouraged the faithful to imbibe the good qualities of sacrifice and service of St. Ignatius. He also encouraged and motivated the students to imitate the life of St. Ignatius and join the holy vocation of the Priesthood. After the Mass, a fellowship meal was organized in the school hall. Along with the present staff, the retired staff of St. Paul’s, benefactors, well wishers, ex-students and Religious too were invited for this fellowship meal. Later in the evening, the community of St. Paul’s Belgaum, joined our Sangargalli brethren in celebrating the feast at Sangargalli.

October 2019:

  • Gandhi and Shastri Jayanthi
    On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti and Shastri Jayanti, a cleanliness drive was organized by the students of our school. The students were happy to be a part of this event and voluntarily cleaned the area around the school. The celebrations were held in our school on the morning of 2nd October 2018. Devotional songs and inspiring messages were delivered by the students.
  • Seminar on “Time to Unwind” for Teachers
    Time to Unwind’ – a seminar consisting of group games, discussion and team work was held on 5th October 2019 for the teachers of our school. Rev. Fr. Cecil Fernandes SJ was the resource person.
  • Seminar on “Effective Learning & Teaching” for Teachers
    A seminar on ‘Effective Learning & Teaching for Teachers’ was organized for our teachers on 17th October 2019. Retired teacher Dr. Suresh Kulkarni and a close associate of Dr. R. Bendre of Dharwad was the resource person. Dr. Kulkarni enlightened the gathering on their sacred vocation as teachers and taught them new skills to motivate and teach students.
  • Visit to Head Post Office
    On 15th October 2019, the primary students of our school were invited by the Belagavi Head Post Office authorities to have a live experience on the functioning of the postal department. The postal authorities took the students around their campus and explained in detail the functioning of their respective departments. They also motivated and encouraged the students to write letters to their friends and relatives in order to inculcate good writing habits.

November 2019:

  • Ex-Paulites Visit
    The students of the 1972-73 batch were happy to visit their alma mater and had their re-union on 16th November 2019. Apart from their various programmes, the Ex-Paulites interacted and motivated our present SSLC students to do well in their school activities and future life. Mr. Walter D’Costa, a Paulite Alumnus of the 1968 batch also visited St. Paul’s and motivated the students during the school assembly. Mr. D’Costa was awarded the British Empire Medal along with the Queen of England’s Honour List in January 2019. Rev. Fr. Anthony D’Souza SJ, an alumnus of the 1955 batch and presently serving in the missions of East Africa, was also present at the assembly and motivated the students.
  • Advent Recollection, Vocation Promotion & Confessions
    The school management organized confessions for the Catholic Students on 30th November 2019. Rev Fr. Cecil Fernandes SJ took the initiative of organizing the sacrament of reconciliation. Before the confessions began, Rev. Fr. Malcolm Barreto SJ (Vocation Promoter of the Goa Jesuit Province), Br. Shane Coelho SJ, and Br. Anthony D’Souza SJ initiated the boys into a prayerful mood, and then gave a meaningful talk on being students of good character and also motivated them to join the Priesthood.
  • Picnics
    This year, the Annual Staff and Student Picnics were held at Budramatti Mini Zoo, Kolhapur Water Park, Froggy Land in Goa and Red Hill Resort in Belgaum.

December 2019:

  • Francis Xavier’s Feast
    The Feast of St. Francis Xavier was celebrated on 3rd December. The students of our school along with the students of St. Joseph’s Convent High School participated in the Mass at Fatima Cathedral actively along with their parents and teachers. Rev. Fr. Savio Barretto SJ, (Former Rector of Bom Jesu Church, Old Goa) was the Main Celebrant. In his homily, Fr. Savio spoke on his experiences as Rector of Bom Jesu Church, Goa and requested the faithful to emulate and learn from the life of St. Francis.
  • Celebration of the life of Late Rev. Fr. Ladislaus Rego SJ and his Funeral Mass
    The Staff and Management of St. Paul’s organized a grand farewell and attend the funeral mass of former Paulite and Teacher of the school, Rev. Fr. Ladislaus Rego SJ, who passed away on 12th December 2019. The Funeral Mass was celebrated in Fatima Cathedral on 15th December, with Most Rev. Derek Fernandes (Bishop of Belgaum), as the Main Celebrant. On behalf of Belgaum Diocese Board of Education, Rev. Fr. Nelson Pinto (Secretary, B.D.B.E.), paid rich tributes and appreciated the selfless services of Fr. Rego in the field of education.
  • Christmas Celebration
    On 21st December 2019, under the guidance of Rev. Fr. Cecil Fernandes SJ, the students of all faiths put up a meaningful play, sang melodious carols and spread the message of love, peace and harmony. A beautiful crib with the message “Conservation of environment and peace,” prepared by Mr. Karu Wagh, Fr. Cecil Fernandes and the support staff, was put up in the school campus and the Jesuit House. Huge crowds visited the cribs during the Christmas week.
    Christmas was celebrated in our school on the 22nd of December 2019.

January 2020:

  • First Friday Mass
    On 3rd January 2020, our students actively participated in a Thanksgiving Mass along with the staff and students of St. Joseph’s Convent High School, Belgaum. Rev. Fr. Shawn D’Souza SJ (Principal – Xavier Technical Institute Khanapur) was the main celebrant. In his homily Fr. Shawn requested the students to open their hearts to God’s calling and join the Priesthood or Religious life.
