  • Endurance Cycling
At the break of dawn on the 13th of October, a mushrooming group of cycling aficionados, all decked up with their greased up cycles and backpacks of essentials, were all set at the St. Paul’s High School main entrance gate ready to accomplish an adventurous mission to cycle to Amboli and back.  At around 06:45 AM, when finally all had arrived, with Fr. Denzil in the lead, the group of enthusiasts bolted off towards Amboli. Their first stop was at the D-Mart shopping mall. The stop was for Fr. Denzil to check that all was well and that no one was lagging way behind. Most of them were very swift in the preliminary 5 km. The second stop was made after 10 km. The group which was together now seemed to be separated by a few kilometres. Fr. Denzil who had his heart in his mouth was cycling to and fro trying to get a glimpse of the missing party, but was not able to. After 12 km of cycling, even before getting to the first steep slope, it was decided unanimously by the panting bunch, who looked liked they needed CPR urgently, that they had enough and were done for the day. More than anything else in the world they wanted to put their aching feet up to rest. Fifteen minutes into the recuperation, a bunch of tired and breathless, blue and red faced boys begin turning up in pairs, greeted by cheers and a standing ovation by those who were already resting. The story does not end here. They next day they come back begging for another experience. They learnt something new that day. “It wasn’t the climb that they conquered but themselves.”
