School Events: 2016 – 2017


August 2016:

  • Honouring a Great Soldier
    On the 26th August 2016, freedom fighter Shri Appaji Ramachandra Kulkarni was felicitated by Rev. Fr. Basil Vago SJ – Principal in St. Paul’s.  Shri Appaji shared his true life experiences with the students and requested the boys to study sincerely.  He appreciated the facilities that are being provided to the students by the teachers and Management of St. Paul’s.

September 2016:

  • Teachers Day Celebration
    Teacher’s Day was celebrated on the 3rd  September 2016.  The students expressed their gratitude to their teachers in the form of dance, skits, songs and speeches.
    Mrs. Rita D’Souza who served as a teacher in St. Paul’s for the past 42 years retired from service on 31st August 2016.  On that day she was given a grand send off.  At the end of her last working day, the teachers assembled near the high school gates, gave her a guard of honour and lovingly bid her a tearful adieu.  On the 3rd September 2016 the Management of St. Paul’s and the Parent Teacher Association felicitated Tr. Rita and thanked her for her sincere and dedicated services.
  • Headmasters Meeting
    The monthly meeting of the Head Master’s of Belagavi City Range was held in St. Paul’s on the 12th September 2016 and various issues relating to education were discussed.
  • Seminar for Teachers on New Education Policies of Indian Constitution
    A seminar for the teachers of St. Paul’s High School and Rosary English Medium High School at Ajra was held on 29th September 2016.   Rev. Fr. Fr. Sunny Jacob SJ – Secretary of Jesuit Association Education (South Asia) and National Advisor of Jesuit Alumni was the resource person. He came all the way from New Delhi to address the teachers.  Fr. Sunny dealt with the topic ‘Characteristics of Jesuit Education’ and the new education policy of the Indian constitution.  He motivated the teachers to follow Jesuit ideals of excellence and the ‘magis’.

October 2016:

  • Global Hand Washing Day
    This was celebrated in our school on 7th October 2016. The programme began with a prayer by the students of the school. A message on the techniques and importance of washing hands was given by Tr. Elizabeth Lobo. Fr. Basil addressed the students on the importance of cleanliness and hygiene emphasized that the washing of hands should last for a minimum of twenty seconds. Later the boys of various classes were asked to wash their hands near the taps as per the demonstration shown to them.
  • Shree Valmiki Jayanti Celebrations
    The staff and students celebrated Shree Valmiki Jayanti on 15th October 2016.  On behalf of the school, Tr. Marielyn Correa and Mr. V. N. Parvatikar offered floral tributes to the Saint.  A prayer was recited and a hymn was sung.  Mr. Parvatikar spoke to the gathering about the noble work and life of Shree Valmiki.
  • 147th Mahatma Gandhi Jayanthi Celebrations
    On behalf of the Management and students, Fr. Basil offered floral tributes to the portrait of Gandhiji.  At the assembly, the students trained by Bro. Lindsay SJ sang the hymn ‘Make me a channel of your peace’.  Prayers in English, Kannada and Hindi were recited by Tr. Carmeline D’Mello, Tr. Mary D’Costa and Tr. Amruta Bellikatti respectively.  In her message to the students, Tr. Lidwina Mendonca requested the students to work hard, be sincere in their studies and practice good moral values like the Mahatma.
  • De-Addiction Seminar
    A de-addiction seminar for the students of Std. IX was held in St. Paul’s. This was facilitated by Dr. Bhandankar, a renowed Orthopedic Surgeon, on behalf of the Indradhanush Club.  Some real life movies were screened to impress upon the boys to stay away and prevent themselves from any kind of harmful addiction.  Mrs. Chabuksar was the resource person.

November 2016:

  • 61st Rajotsava Day Celebrations
    This was celebrated on 2nd November 2016.  The entire programme was in Kannada language.  The students of our school performed dances, sang patriotic songs and delivered soul stirring messages.
  • Yoga Workshop
    This was organized by Fr. Jimmy Mendes SJ, the Vice Principal and Mr. Savio Martin for the students of Std. VI to X on 3rd, 4th and 5th November 2016.  More than 100 students participated in this workshop.  Various yogasanas were taught to the boys.  Stress relief and emotion control techniques were taught to the participants. Dr. Godbole gave valuable inputs and practice sessions to the participants.
  • Children’s Day Celebrations
    The teachers of the school entertained the students with songs and a dance on the morning of 14th November 2016, to celebrate Children’s Day. In her message to the students, Tr. Nandini Pai – the In-charge Headmistress requested the students to work hard and inculcate good moral values and be good citizens of the society.  The celebrations concluded with a volley ball and throw ball match between the staff and the students.
  • Kanakadas Jayanti
    Kanakadas Jayanti was celebrated in our school on the morning of 17th November 2016.  On behalf of the Management, Fr. Basil Vago – the Principal offered flowers to the picture of Kanakadas.  In her message Tr. Meera Gokhral spoke about the true life experiences of the Saint.  Tr. Vijayalakshmi Metri sang a devotional song composed by the saint.

December 2016:

  • The 160 Years Closing Ceremony
    The Grand Finale of the 160 years celebration of St. Paul’s High School began on 15th December 2016 with a Solemn Thanksgiving Eucharist in Fatima Cathedral.  All the Priests and Religious of Belgaum Diocese and Jesuits from the Goa and Pune Province were invited for the celebration. Rev. Fr. Fidelino Araujo – Alumni of St. Paul’s and Parish Priest of St. Joseph’s Church, Hubbali was the Main Celebrant.  Along with the Rector, Principal and Vice-Principal, a few Jesuits from the neighbouring parishes and mission stations celebrated at the Eucharistic Celebration. The students, parents, members of the Paulites of Belgaum Worldwide and Parent Teacher Association participated actively in the Eucharistic Celebration. The choir consisted of our young Paulites.  They were trained by our Jesuit scholastics Br. Velenson, Br. Jovilton and Br. Lindsay. The growth of St. Paul’s over the past 160 years was symbolically displayed at the offertory procession by the students, in the form of a seed growing into a tree.  Tr. Jean Rebello, Tr. Mariamma and Mr. Deepak Pillay helped in organizing the Liturgy for the Mass.
    After the Mass, an exhibition was held in the school hall, where-in rare photographs of the previous years of the school were displayed. The exhibition was inaugurated by Rev. Fr. Fidelino Araujo and Rev. Fr. Alban D’Souza SJ.  The Alumni – Aslam Sait, Praveen Kulkarni, S. Bandukwalla, Fr.Basil Vago SJ and members of the Paulites of Belgaum Worldwide, worked meticulously towards organizing this exhibition, which was lauded and appreciated by the audience, as it brought back many nostalgic memories about their beloved school.
    The program ended with a fellowship lunch for the members of the Jesuit Community, Religious, guests, well-wishers and the retired and present staff of St. Paul’s.  Shri. Harsha H.E. – Chief Executive Officer of the Belagavi Cantonment Board, who is also a Jesuit alumni, was the Guest of honour for the afternoon’s function.
    A grand cultural program was held on the evening of 16th December 2016 on the school ground. The students of the school displayed their talents in the form of songs, dance, speeches, live rock band and skits. Invitations were sent to 38 retired staff, as the Management wished to appreciate their services and felicitate them.  Fr. Alban D’Souza SJ – Rector and Fr. Basil Vago SJ – Principal felicitated the retired staff of St. Paul’s with a shawl and memento. The program concluded with the display of 160 lamps symbolizing the 160 years of service to humanity.
  • Christmas Celebration
    Christmas was celebrated in our school on the 23rd December 2016.  At the assembly, the students enacted a play on the birth of Christ.  Tr. Mariamma gave an inspiring  Christmas message.  The students also performed a dance and sang few carols. Master Mukkaram Shaikh was the Santa Claus and entertained the gathering with his hip hop dance.

January 2017:

  • Career Guidance Seminar
    A seminar on career guidance for our SSLC students was organized on 12th January 2017.  Mr. Amit Saundalgekar, a noted counsellor and career analyst was the resource person.  Mr. Amit spoke to the students on choosing their career and made them aware of various courses, opportunities and avenues. Mr. Amit emphasized on choosing a career or a course depending on the individual’s interest. He said that ‘Hard work to pursue success is a must’.  True life incidents were narrated to bring in awareness and motivate the students.
  • Republic Day Celebrations
    At the Republic Day celebrations, the students displayed a prayer dance, various drills and march past. The brass band consisting of our young and talented students was in attendance. Rev. Fr. Amit D’Souza SJ, a former Paulite, was the Chief Guest. Rev. Fr. Amit D’Souza SJ was ordained a Priest on 30th December 2016 and belongs to the Goa Jesuit Province.
    At the district level, the republic day celebrations which were held in the Nehru Stadium. Our school was represented by the students of Std. VI and VII who performed a meaningful patriotic dance.

February 2017:

  • Cabinet Investiture 2017-2018
    The  High School Cabinet for the year 2017-18 was installed on 2nd February 2017.  In all, we have 26 cabinet members. Master Warren Viegas is the Student Pupil Leader and Master Akshat Navgekar is the Assistant Student Pupil Leader. This was done after a series of ballot vote by the students, teachers and an interview with the Principal.
  • Best Institution Award
    Air Commodore Shri. C. Rajiv – Director General of NCC Karnataka & Goa Directorate awarded St. Paul’s High School, Belagavi with the best institution award in the Junior Division for Goa and Karnataka region on 4th February 2017 at Christ University, Bangalore.  The award was received by Fr. Basil Vago SJ – and Mr. V.N.Parvatikar – ANO NCC Army Wing.  Cadet Joy Monteiro represented St. Paul’s High School in Junior Division Wing at the Republic Day Celebrations in New Delhi on 26th January 2017.
  • Measles & Rubella Vaccination Campaign
    As per the directions of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, the vaccination drive was carried out in three phases. It began with the Sunbeam section on 11th February 2017. It continued on 14th February 2017 for the students of the primary and high school section. In all, 1,615 students were vaccinated. This was done with the assistance of the medical team of KLE Hospital Belgaum and the members of the Parent Teacher Association.
  • SSLC Social Day and Passing Out Parade
    A Thanksgiving Mass for all the SSLC students was celebrated on Saturday, 18th February in the school.  Rev. Fr. Amit D’Souza SJ, a former Paulite was the Main Celebrant along with Frs. Basil Vago SJ and Jimmy Mendes SJ.
    The Annual Passing Out Parade for the SSLC students was held on 22nd February 2017. Shri T.G.Krishna Bhatta I.P.S., Honorable Commissioner of Belagavi City, was the Chief Guest. The students of the primary school and high school entertained the audience and the SSLC students with their dances and good speeches.  In his address to the SSLC students, the Principal requested them to practice good moral values and be a beacon of love, hope and always continue to study sincerely for their fast approaching board examinations.

March 2017:

  • Ash Wednesday
    Rev. Fr. Jimmy Mendes SJ and Fr. Basil Vago SJ offered a Mass for the students and staff of the school on the morning of 1st March 2017. In his homily, Fr. Jimmy conveyed the importance and significance of the season of Lent.
