Fr. Eric Mathias SJ
The present Principal of the St. Paul’s High School is Fr. Eric Harry Mathias SJ. His appointment marks the beginning of a new chapter in the school’s journey of academic excellence, holistic formation, and service to society.
Born on 17 October 1969 in Santhurkopla, Udupi District, Karnataka, Fr. Eric grew up in a family deeply rooted in faith and service. After completing his schooling and Pre-University education at St. Aloysius College, Mangaluru, he joined the Society of Jesus (Jesuits) and underwent extensive formation in Philosophy, Theology, Education, and Sociology.
Ordained as a Jesuit priest in 2001, Fr. Eric dedicated himself to serving communities in the remote regions of Raichur District. His work focused on improving access to education, healthcare, clean drinking water, and livelihood opportunities for economically disadvantaged families. His commitment to social transformation has touched the lives of thousands, particularly among Dalit and Devadasi communities.
A visionary educator and institution builder, Fr. Eric founded and nurtured several educational institutions, including Loyola School, St. Xavier’s School, Loyola PU College, and Loyola Degree College in Manvi. Through these initiatives, countless students have received quality education and opportunities for a brighter future.
His contributions extend beyond education. Fr. Eric has actively promoted women’s empowerment through Self-Help Groups, vocational training programmes, and community development initiatives. He has also been instrumental in providing housing support, establishing health centres, and improving access to clean drinking water in under-served areas.
Throughout his ministry in Raichur, Sindagi, Mangaluru, and Harihar, Fr. Eric has been recognised for his dynamic leadership, innovative vision, and unwavering dedication to the mission of education. At St. Aloysius Institutions, Mangaluru, he served in several key leadership roles, inspiring students and educators alike through his simplicity, compassion, and pursuit of excellence. In Harihar, he founded St. Aloysius International School, further strengthening educational opportunities for young learners.
Known for his approachable nature, cheerful personality, and strong commitment to the Jesuit value of Magis—striving for excellence in all things—Fr. Eric continues to inspire those around him to dream big, serve generously, and lead with integrity.
