School Events: 2017 – 2018


June 2017:

  • New Principal and Vice Principal
    Rev. Fr. Roland Coelho SJ assumed office as the Principal after completing his Doctorate in Educational Leadership (Ed.D.) at Creighton University in USA.  We also have a new Vice Principal, Rev. Fr. Denzil Rodrigues SJ. He is a musician and a multifaceted personality.
  • International Yoga Day Celebration
    International Yoga Day cum Training was celebrated on 16th and 17th June 2017 from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM in our school.  Shri Anand Aralikatti from Patanjali, Belagavi was the resource person.  150 cadets of the army wing, air wing and naval wing actively participated in the school hall.  The physical instruction staff from 26 Karnataka Battalion also witnessed the programme. Also, 26 Army Wing Cadets participated in yoga celebration in Beynon Smith School Ground along with the neighbouring schools on the 21st June 2017.
  • Parent Teacher Meeting
    For the welfare and betterment of students, class-wise PTA meetings were held. The parents were instructed of what is required from them and the students for the smooth functioning of the school.  The Principal appreciated the presence of the parents at the meetings and thanked them for their suggestions.
  • Workshop on ‘Classroom Management’ for Teachers
    On 24th June 2017, a workshop on ‘Classroom Management’  was organized by Rev. Fr. Denzil Rodrigues SJ – Vice Principal.
  • Visit of NCC Deputy Director General
    Deputy Director General of NCC, Air CMDE C Rajeev Srivastav, (Karnataka & Goa NCC Directorate Bangalore), visited our school at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, 27th June 2017.  He was accompanied by Group Commander Col. K. V. Srinivas of Belgaum Group and Commanding Officer Col. C. Virdi of 26 Karnataka Battalion, Belgaum. The Principal, Vice Principal and ANOs of the Air Wing – Mr. Anand D’Souza, Army Wing – Mr. V.N.Parvatikar and Naval Wing – Mr. Karu Wagh welcomed CMDE Rajeev.  The school brass band was in attendance and displayed their musical talents in welcoming the dignitaries. CMDE Rajeev appreciated the NCC Roll of Honour which is displayed in front of the Principal’s office.  He appreciated the good work and the initiatives taken by the school authorities, in the field of NCC to represent Republic Day parades and Sthala Sainik Camps at New Delhi by the NCC cadets.  He also motivated and inspired the cadets to serve the nation, by joining the armed forces.  CMDE Rajeev went down memory lane and recalled his days as a student and football team member, of the neighbouring Belgaum Military School and their participation in the prestigious Fr. Eddie Memorial Football Tournament on St. Paul’s ground in the years 1978 and 1979.  He was happy to know that Fr. Eddie Memorial football tournament is still being successfully organized annually. The event was coordinated by the army wing cadets and cabinet members under the guidance Mr. V.N.Parvatikar.
  • Primary School Cabinet Investiture
    The ceremony was held on 28th June 2017 in the presence of the Principal, Vice Principal, Headmistress, teachers, parents and primary school students in the school hall.  The cabinet members were elected by ballot vote, by the primary school teachers and students of Std. V.  The Principal thanked the outgoing cabinet members for their selfless service and motivated the newly elected members.
  • Feast of St. Paul
    The Annual school feast of St. Paul was celebrated on 29th June 2017.  Former Paulite and present Bishop of Belgaum – Most Rev. Peter Machado was the main celebrant at the Eucharistic Celebration. The parents of the students were also invited to participate in the feast Mass. In his homily, Fr. Roland spoke on the life of St. Paul and requested the faithful to imbibe the qualities of St. Paul. The liturgy was organized by the teachers and the choir by Rev. Fr. Denzil Rodrigues SJ.

July 2017:

  • Workshop on ‘Our Identify, Vision and Mission’ for Teachers
    On 1st July 2017 a workshop on ‘Our Identity, Vision and Mission’ was organized by Rev. Fr. Roland Coelho SJ. We reflected on who we are as a school body, what we wish to achieve, the importance of a clear vision, mission and its benefits.
  • Workshop on ‘Family, A fountain of Life and Love’ for the Students
    The cabinet members participated in an inter-school workshop ‘METANOIA’ which was organized on 1st July 2017 by St. Joseph’s Convent High School, Belgaum.  The theme of the workshop was, ‘family a fountain of life and love’.  The participants were told to respect their parents and elders at home and selflessly support each and every member of their family.  Family related activities like financial problems, health problems, supporting the family during moments of crisis, etc. were organized. Our cabinet members returned with an enriched mind and have realized the value and need of a family life.
  • Co-Curricular Activity Clubs
    As instructed by the Government Department of Education and keeping in mind the all round development of our students, 13 Co-curricular Activity (CCA) Clubs were formed.  Co-Ordinators for each CCA Club were also appointed. Each student was requested to choose at least three clubs as per their potential. When the options were given, there was a power point presentation on the smart class board giving information regarding each club.  This was done to help the students make the right choice. On 1st July 2017 each CCA club was formally inaugurated. To inculcate a sense of responsibility among the students a Secretary, Joint Secretary and Treasurer was appointed. Mrs. Meera Gokhral and Mr. V.N.Parvatikar are the CCA club Co-Ordinators.
  • Vanamahotsava
    On 9th July 2017, the members of the ECO club of our school celebrated Vanamahotsava by planting five saplings in the premises of Water Treatment and Purification Board, Laxmitek, Belgaum.  This was done in collaboration with the members of the Paulites of Belgaum Worldwide, Go Green NGO and Forest Department officials.  This event was coordinated by Mr. Mahesh Kori and Mr. Apolin Borges.
    50 NCC Army Wing Cadets of our school took the initiative in procuring saplings from Government Forest Department officials at Machhe. District Forest Officer – Mr. Malinath Kusnal helped in getting the saplings of Peeple, Gooseberry, Honge, Pongamia, Pinata and Neem. These saplings were planted by the NCC cadets in the open space available in the firing range of 26 Karnataka Battalion NCC in Jadhav Nagar, Belgaum. Col. Virdi – NCC Commanding Officer and Physical Instruction Staff appreciated the initiative taken by our Army Wing Cadets in the field of preserving nature and ecology.
  • New Rector
    On 11th July 2017, the staff of St. Paul’s welcomed Rev. Fr. Ronald D’Souza SJ who is appointed as the Rector of Jesuit House and Manager of St. Paul’s High School w.e.f. 9th July 2017.  Rev. Fr. Denzil SJ – the Vice Principal introduced Fr. Ronnie to the staff. On behalf of the staff Mr. V.N.Parvatikar thanked our previous Rector, Rev. Fr. Alban SJ for his constant support and yeomen service to the school.
  • Seminar on ‘Discipline and Stress Management‘ for the Students
    A seminar on ‘Discipline and Stress Management’ was conducted by Fr. Roland Coelho SJ for the cabinet members of St. Paul’s and St. Joseph’s Convent High school on 12th of July 2017.
  • Installation of Digital Board
    With a view to be in par with the digital world, a digital LED Board was installed on 31st July 2017 – the feast of St Ignatius Loyola. Daily notices for the students, thought for the day and achievements of students are displayed on this board.

August 2017:

  • Various Seminars for Teachers
    One hour Seminars on Saturday afternoons for the staff were conducted by – Tr. Mariamma and Tr. Lira D’Souza  on ‘Teachers as facilitators of learning’, Fr. Ronald D’Souza SJ on ‘Teaching a Vocation’, Tr. Marielyn Correa & Tr. Carmeline D’Mello on ‘Improving Slow Learners and Preparation of Lesson Plan’. Our teachers have benefited from these seminars which will help them to upgrade themselves when they are in touch with students in the classroom.
  • Seminar on ‘Motivation and Excellence’ for the Students
    On 8th August 2017, Rev. Fr. Matthew Bardeskar SJ – former Vice Principal visited the school and gave a seminar on motivation and excellence to the students of Std. VII to X.  The students were addressed in batches and they have learnt much.
  • Independence Day Celebrations
    Grand Celebrations were the mood of the hour on the morning of 15th August 2017.  Former Paulite, Rector of the Jesuit House and Manager of St. Paul’s High School Belgaum – Rev. Fr. Ronald D’Souza SJ was the Chief Guest. The students displayed their talents in the form of speeches, dances and songs.
    A Blood Donation Camp was organized by the Paulites of Belgaum Worldwide in collaboration with the doctors of K.L.E. Hospital, Belgaum.  They were supported by the members of the Parent Teacher Association.
    The celebrations concluded with the release of the June 2017 issue of the Paulite Link Magazine by Rev. Fr. Rector, Rev. Fr. Principal and Rev. Fr. Vice-Principal and the Editorial Team Members, Praveen Kulkarni and S. Bandukwalla.

September 2017:

  • Plant and Flower Show
    Our students participated in the plant and flower show organised by the Belgaum Gardeners Club on 16th September 2017. Master Atharwa Pawar won the special prize and Master Pranav Koparde won the third prize.
  • Seminar on ‘Child Abuse & Child Safety‘ for Teachers
    On 16th September 2017 a Seminar on ‘Child Abuse & Child Safety’ was conducted by Rev. Fr. Roland Coelho SJ. With a power-point presentation, the Principal briefed the staff members on POSCO Act different types of child abuse and on the latest development that are happening in some of the schools in our country. Discussions were done and solutions were sought on providing safety to the students in our school.
  • Seminar on ‘Motivation and Excellence‘ for Students
    Rev. Fr. Matthew Bardeskar SJ conducted a seminar on ‘Motivation And Excellence’ for the students of Std. VII to X. The students were addressed in batches and they learnt a lot.
  • Retreat for Catholic Students
    A one hour retreat for the catholic students was organized on 20th September 2017 during the afternoon session. The students were divided into three groups – I to IV, V to VII and VIII to X; and were led into an hour of prayer, praise and worship. The experience was made lively by the use of musical instruments; the guitar and keyboard, and the sang songs of praise and worship. The students were advised to read the Bible daily, attend Sunday Mass regularly and inculcate good Christian and moral values.
    The resource team included Mr. Philip D’Souza, Mrs. Carol Fernandes, Mr. Deepak K. Prasad, Mr. Victor Francis, Mr. Benedicto Fernandes, Mr. Prashant Mali and Mr. Crison Borges.
  • Seminar on ‘Exam is a festival; let’s celebrate it!‘ for Students
    A seminar – ‘Exam is a festival; let’s celebrate it!’ for the SSLC students was conducted on 23rd September 2017.  Mr. Praveen Patil was the resource person.

October 2017:

  • New Provincial of the Goa Province of Jesuits
    Rev. Fr. Roland Coelho SJ, Alumnus and present Principal of St. Paul’s  has been appointed as the Provincial of the Goa Jesuit Province by Rev. Fr. Arturo Sosa SJ – Superior General, Rome. Fr. Roland is the first Paulite and second Belgaumite (after Rev. Fr. Vincent D’Souza SJ) to assume office as a Jesuit Provincial.
  • New Principal
    Rev. Fr. Pedro Rodrigues SJ, succeeds Rev. Fr. Roland Colelho SJ, as the next Principal of St. Paul’s High School. Prior to this appointment, Fr. Pedro was serving as the Principal of Loyola Higher Secondary College at Margao, Goa which was initiated by him.
  • Centenary Celebrations of the Apparitions of Our Lady
    On the afternoon of 7th October 2017, our students actively participated in a healing retreat along with students of other schools in the Cathedral. This was conducted by Rev. Fr. Alwyn Misquita SDB. Many of our students also actively participated in the dance drama on the 13th October 2017.

November 2017:

  • 62nd Rajotsava Day Celebrations
    This was celebrated on 2nd November 2016. The entire programme was in Kannada language. The students of our school performed dances, sang patriotic songs and delivered soul stirring messages. In his message to the students, the Principal briefed the students about the freedom fighters belonging to Karnataka and requested them to be sincere, hardworking, inculcate good moral values and be useful citizens of the society.
  • Children’s’ Day Celebrations
    The teachers of the school entertained the students with songs and a dance on the morning of 14th November 2017, to celebrate Children’s Day. Rev. Fr. Ronald D’Souza SJ (Manager of St. Paul’s and Rector of the Jesuit House) was the Chief Guest. Rev. Fr. Pedro Rodrigues SJ – Principal, Tr. Meera Gokhral and Tr. Nandini Pai addressed the students and inspired them with their soul stirring messages.
  • International Unity Day Celebration
    “Rashtriya Ekta Diwas” was celebrated in on 22nd November 2017. This was conducted by the D.El.Ed. Trainees of St. Joseph’s Teachers’ Training Institute, Belgaum. The trainees enlightened the students of our school on the importance of national unity which is very important for the progress of our nation.
  • Annual NCC Day
    A rally on the importance of ‘Save the Girl Child’ was held on 23rd November 2017 in the camp area. The NCC students of Army and Navy wing took part in the rally with placards and posters. Rev. Fr. Pedro Rodrigues SJ – Principal flagged off the rally at 10:45 A, from St. Paul’s.
  • Road Safety Awareness Programme
    On 23rd November 2017, the High School students participated in a Road Safety Awareness Programme organized by the Government Transport Department at Visweshwariah Technological University, Santibastwad, Belagavi.

January 2018:

  • Thanksgiving Mass
    A thanksgiving Mass was offered for the intentions of all at St. Paul’s on the morning of 9th January 2018. Rev. Fr. Ronald D’Souza (Manager of St. Paul’s and Rector of the Jesuit House) was the Main Celebrant. In his homily, Fr. Ronnie spoke on the life of St. John de Britto and requested the students and staff members to imbibe good qualities and draw inspiration from his life.
  • Motivational Talk for Parents on “Learning Styles & Multiple Intelligence”
    A talk on “Learning Styles & Multiple Intelligence” for the parents our SSLC students was organized by the members of the Parent Teacher Association on 10th January 2018.
    Dr. Ashwini Belgaumkar, a renowned psychologist was the resource person. She addressed the parents and guided them as to how their children should study and prepare for examinations. She also requested the parents to spend quality time with their children, in order to help them develop a healthy and good relationship. The parents were also advised on various career opportunities, which their children could choose in the near future and made them aware of various courses, opportunities and avenues.

February 2018:

  • Cabinet Investiture 2017-18
    The High School Cabinet for the year 2018-19 was installed on 8th February 2018. In all, we have 26 cabinet members. Master Kartik Jadhav was elected as the Student Pupil Leader and Master Oliver Megeri as the Assistant Student Pupil Leader. This was done after a series of ballot vote by the students, teachers and an interview with the Principal.
  • Sendoff to Teacher Eugene Francis
    Teacher Eugene Francis retired from service on 31st December 2017. She served sincerely in St. Paul’s for 38 years. On 9th February 2018 she was given a grand send off. The Management of St. Paul’s and the Parent Teacher Association felicitated Tr. Eugene and thanked her for her sincere and dedicated services.
  • SSLC Social Day & Passing Out Parade
    The Annual Passing Out Parade for the SSLC students was held on 16nd February 2018. Brigadier Govind Kalwad (Commandant MLIRC Belagavi) was the Chief Guest.
    Master Warren Viegas was selected as the boy of the year 2017-18. The students of the primary school and high school entertained the audience and the SSLC students with their dances and heart-warming speeches. In his address to the SSLC students, the Principal requested them to practice good moral values and be a beacon of love, hope and always continue to study sincerely for their fast approaching board examinations.
    A Thanksgiving Mass for all the SSLC students was celebrated on Monday, 19th February in the school. Rev. Fr. Ronald D’Souza SJ D’Souza (Manager of St. Paul’s and Rector of the Jesuit House), was the Main Celebrant. In his homily Fr. Ronnie motivated the students and requested them to heap a good harvest. He also requested them to be more serious in their studies for the fast approaching prelim and board exams.
